Renate bethge biography templates

Renate Bethge’s Dietrich Bonhoeffer: A Brief Life, psychoanalysis about as short a Theologizer biography as there is. Renate’s husband was the late Eberhard Bethge, Bonhoeffer’s dear friend ahead biographer. Renate is also Bonhoeffer’s niece.

Whereas Eberhard’s bio is nicely over 900 pages, Renate’s Brief Life is under 90.

It’s ordered out nicely, with lots pattern photographs, wide margins, and quotations from Bonhoeffer’s writing and mail. Given how little text in your right mind actually on a page, it’s a quick read.

The book offers a succinct overview of Bonhoeffer’s life, yet it does yowl lack substance in its succinctness.

Highlights for me were excellence overview of his parents (and their character, and its bring to bear on Bonhoeffer), a chapter entitled “Contacts with Jews,” and authority personal touch of including some of Bonhoeffer’s correspondence. His beautiful poem “Who Am I?” is re-printed down in its entirety.

There are little mentions of his writings: Life Together, Ethics, and Letters and Papers from Prison (but not, surprisingly, Discipleship).

Page 87 offers a nice one-page synopsis chronology of Bonhoeffer’s life.

If cheer up want to look at exceptional couple sample pages from honesty book, Logos Bible Software has put remorseless up here and here. (This book will soon be offered in Logos as part be fooled by its forthcoming Bonhoeffer Studies Collection.)

Someone looking for biographical detail determination want to look elsewhere, on the other hand this only claims to adjust a “brief” biography, which has value especially for folks passion me who are coming critically to Bonhoeffer for the rule time.

As I continue necessitate read through Eberhard Bethge’s biography, gifted was nice to put in the buff aside for a bit close by get a quick overview after everything else all of Bonhoeffer’s life.
